Drape An Indian Saree: Look Beautiful

I have never worn a saree till date, I always find skirts, jeans and tops to be easier to manage and maintain so to speak. But now I am supposed to go to a family function where everyone will be dressed traditionally and I don’t want to be an odd girl out there... wearing western outfits.

Thankfully my friends came to my aid and helped me learn how to wear a saree. I am sure there are many women around who might have the similar problem. A small tutorial about how to wear an Indian saree would be a great read for all of them.

In India, a saree can be draped in number of ways. A Saree properly draped transforms a woman to become graceful, stylish and elegant. The very Indian way of draping a saree is illustrated in some basic steps.

1. Tuck the plain end of the saree into the petticoat and continue tucking till you take a complete turn from left to right. Adjust the lower end of the saree to the height required. Ideally wear your footwear so that you drape the saree to the right length.

2. Make pleats with the saree. About 6 to 8 pleats would do with most sarees. Here it is essential to see that the pleats are even and fall straight.

3. Tuck the pleats, taking care to see that the pleats are turned towards the left.

4. The remaining portion of the saree must be turned once around the body and then draped over the left shoulder. Arrange the pleats on this part of the saree and then pin them up on the left shoulder to prevent the pallu from falling off.

You are now draped in a saree. Now stand before the mirror and get delighted by the grace you exude. Ashika Mall makes you find exclusive and beautiful sarees for online shopping.
